About This Course

Welcome to the Platform Thinking Module! 🎉

In this course you will get an in-depth introduction to platform thinking. We will revisit the foundational concepts of platforms, ensuring a clear and shared understanding of what they are and how they function. While you may already be familiar with these ideas, it is crucial to establish a solid grasp of platform fundamentals for successful collaboration with the Business Transformation Team or any other team. Without this shared understanding, it can be harder to reach your desired outcomes—and we are here to support you every step of the way.

Let’s briefly clarify what a platform is—and what it is not. A platform is not simply a website, an app, a digital service, software-as-a-service, an NFT, an e-commerce store, or a distributor/producer. These elements may be part of a platform’s strategy or technical stack, but they are not the entirety of what defines a platform. Instead, platforms are designed to reduce transaction costs (first by making transactions cheaper, faster, and easier), mobilize ecosystems, and facilitate external interactions rather than focus solely on internal processes.

At its core, platform thinking is about envisioning, developing, and rolling out strategies that create and sustain dynamic ecosystems. It emphasizes the importance of fostering shared ideas and supporting execution, as well as adopting boundaryless approaches to prioritize external interactions and iterative design.

By the end of this module, you will not only have a deeper understanding of platforms but also see how these concepts can be applied to design your own platform strategies. This knowledge will empower you to build platforms that align with your ecosystem’s unique needs and drive sustainable success.

Let’s get started! 🚀
