Platform strategy

Boundaryless

About This Course

Welcome to Boundaryless' optional modules on Platform Strategy! 🎉

This course is designed to provide you with valuable additional resources to strengthen and refine your platform strategy.

The optional modules offer a light yet focused analysis of the ecosystem you aim to mobilize. By exploring inefficiencies, opportunities, and threats, these modules will equip you with the tools to lay the ground to build effective platform strategy models.

You can learn through the "Apply Platform Plays and Light Value Chain analysis" module how to map value chains to understand bottlenecks and gatekeepers, inefficiencies and opportunities. Through the "Platform Strategy Model" module you can address all the elements needed to consolidate and visualise your platform strategy. Finally, the "Network Effects - Flywheels" module lets you dive into key elements of platform growth, for which topics include:

  • Understanding network effects and network properties.
  • Sketching flywheels and solving the infamous chicken-egg problem.
  • Learning about liquidity and framing the canonical unit.
  • Identifying monetization patterns and crafting growth tactics.

These modules are optional by design. If you're new to platform strategy and design, they provide substantial value to get started. If you already have all the information needed for your business models, KPIs, and platform impact, you can choose to skip them. However, we encourage you to explore these modules for two reasons:

  • They allow you to enrich your existing platform strategy by introducing fresh perspectives.
  • They are composable, meaning you can select specific modules as needed when tackling challenges in other areas.

Let’s get started! 🚀
